I first heard about Charles Cameron through his books which I bought from Supreme Magic Co. in the late 1970’s. ‘Handbook of Horror and ‘Witches Brew’ were my first contact with sort of different magic and I loved them. Later when I came in contact with the ‘Shadow Network’ through another legend, Carl Herron (Brother Shadow), I tried to find out where to get a ‘jumping disc’. Charles Cameron wrote to me and was kind enough to send me not only one but two of them. I have been fortunate to exchange mail with this extremely kind man on several occasions since then. My first meeting with Charles was at the ‘Meeting of the Mages’ in Barrow Court in Birmingham. Again his kindness and patience with all his admirers was wonderful and I will never forget when we all gathered in the hall below the stairs after dinner. Charles was a few steps up on the big old staircase, raising his hand and invocating the demon of darkness in a strange tongue. Suddenly there was a flash and a stream of fire from his hand as the lights went out and we heard and saw the demon proceed or float down the stairs. Now and then I have had the pleasure of visiting him and his lovely companion, Alex, in their apartment in Edinburgh. There is always a steady flow of whiskey and strange stories in those rooms and his friends are always welcomed and greeted with great warmth. I consider it my pleasure and great fortune to know this man. |
