Stephen
lives in Kilmarnock, Scotland with his wife Patricia, son Marc and
daughter Laura. He has worked in the Computer Manufacturing industry for
the last twenty six years.
Stephen first discovered the wonder of magic at the tender age of seven watching magician David Nixon on TV. Fully utilising the contents of his first magic set that Christmas, he put on a show for his mum, dad, sister and brother, but, unfortunately, to his audience, he was more Tommy Cooper than David Nixon due to his tricks going terribly wrong. This was not part of his master plan to be a "serious" magician. Thus ended his desire to be a magician at that point. Fast forward to 2001.......whilst browsing in a second hand bookshop near Perth, Scotland, a copy of "Everybody's Book of Magic" found him. At that moment, he was bitten and smitten again by the magic bug. What followed was a relentless and enjoyable search to learn about ALL aspects of magic. After consuming some of the works of Eugene Burger, Charles Cameron, Michael Ammar, Ian Rowland and Richard Osterlind, he settled on a mixture of bizarre storytelling and mind magic. Many writers have influenced his storytelling namely Ray Bradbury, Stephen King, Iain Banks and the Coen brothers. Combining his passion of writing and performing music and also writing short stories, he created a forty minute show "by candlelight" for family and friends. This time around though, he developed a character true to self with a fully scripted, practiced and rehearsed show. The Very Reverend S. Ulysses Wainwright was conceived and born in October 2001. The Reverend transports his guests to various strange, bizarre and wondrous lands in order to entertain, delight and mystify. Visit a mortuary in London’s East end 1888. Experience an opening of the Devils Box. Witness the Creation of the Universe. Of course, guests are mildly encouraged to indulge in a "small libation" before commencement of the evening’s entertainment in order to steady the nerves and make ready for the unfolding of the somewhat chilling events. Over the past few years, at the Gatherings in Edinburgh, he has been inspired by Alex Wallace’s warmth, humour and genuiness. Roni Shachnaey’s delightful performances, support and advice and finally, Karl Bartoni’s organizational skills and commitment. Plans for 2006 and beyond are to continue to revise and improve his current candlelit shows, develop his reading skills for Tarot cards and palmistry, and, develop a standalone mind mystery act with a long-term ambition of performing as a professional full-time entertainer. |
