The official unveiling of the plaque took place on 11th October 2003, during the Charles W. Cameron Memorial Gathering in Edinburgh. 70 people were seated in readiness for the unveiling when Adrian Harris of Perth sprang a wonderful surprise. He went around and gave everyone a whisky glass and miniature bottle of whisky so that a toast with Charles' favourite beverage could be made to him and the plaque.

Alex Wallace and Brother Shadow (Carl Herron) then mounted the platform and unveiled the plaque which was followed by the toast. They then went outside for more photographs to be taken.
