Michael Diamond

Born in 1971, Liverpool, England (where he still resides), Michael was educated in the famous Beechenhurst school, then later at the equally famous Liverpool College.

His interest in magic began around the age of three, when his dad (a professional artist) started making him simple tricks out of cardboard, following directions from basic magic books. Michael also enjoyed watching the late David Nixon on television around that time. Following on from this, trips to the 'Wizard's' Den' and 'Ace Place' magic shops in Liverpool furnished him with better tricks.

When on holiday at 'Pontins', talent competitions were entered and regularly won, this led to much encouragement from the resident children's entertainers and visiting cabaret artists on the camp.

Whilst holidaying on the Isle Of Wight in 1980, he was introduced to Sid & Eve Edwards of 'The Magic Box' who sold him his first professional props and kept supplying him with them until Sid's recent death. This was also a time where he got inspiration from watching Paul Daniels and also David Copperfield.

At 17, he took and passed his A-Levels a year early and went straight to work in a summer season at the Blackpool Pleasure Beach, doing kid's shows in the day and table-hopping in 'Mystique' in the evenings.

The next summer season was the first of many as a children's entertainer at various Pontins centres. Also, he did touring cabaret at Haven and Butlins.

"After this, I returned to Blackpool Pleasure Beach where I fronted my own show in the 'Sheriff's Bar' for two summers seasons. I have alo done several Xmas seasons in Finland and played parts from Dame to Genie and Capt. Hook in Panto's. My magic has taken me across the globe, from Paris to Las Vegas. I have also acted as a magical consultant for many shows, corporate events, companies and magicians.

In 1994, I met my assistant Sally (now my wife) and we had a daughter, Amber, in 2000. We are still busy with our touring illusion show, 'Diamond & Jade', kids shows and close-up magic.

I have always been interested in the bizarre from a very early age, having a fascination with ghost stories and horror movies. This interest naturally merged with the magic to create my individual style, presenting silent horror (gore) magic as 'Hellbound - the horror show' or storytelling magic as 'Michael Diamond - Psychic Investigator'.

One day I hope to have a museum in which I can display all my collection of weird, strange and even gruesome artifacts from around the world, accumulated over many years.

One of my proudest moments was completing my first book, 'The Book Of Shadows' in 2001. I have also created other original effects and illusions, all based around bizarre magic, which is my favourite style of magic.

My favourite effect - any form of Levitation.
Favourite Magician - Phil Golstein/Max Maven.
Favourite magic book - Spirit Theatre by Eugene Burger.
Bizarre Inspirations - E. Burger, Charles Cameron, Max Maven, Tony 'Doc' Sheils, Tony Andruzzi.

My Other Interests include :- Italian horror movies of the 70's & 80's, sideshow acts and performers, Vampires (fact & fiction), comic book art (particularly underground), collecting magic books and posters, collecting circus posters, collecting rare artifacts and also sideshow artifacts.
