Bizarrist David Birtwell is profiled at Dragonskull Magik.
David Birtwell.
David Birtwell (aged 40)is a Bizarre Magick enthusiast
who is a software engineer by day. He is originally from the
Philadelphia area in the USA but is currently residing, with his wife
Melissa, in Eastern Massachusetts just next to Salem.
He was bitten by the magic bug around the age of ten. After consuming all of the magic books and tricks he could find, and being inspired by the likes of Doug Henning, he decided it was time to perform for the public. He performed for birthday parties, Cub Scout banquets, and just about any venue that would have him. He continued to perform up until he went to college. At that time, he temporarily lost his interest in performing magic and sold most of his props and books. Several years later, he found himself entering a magic shop in downtown Philadelphia, just for kicks. It was here that he came across a book called Lovecraftian Ceremonies by Steven Minch. Because of his interest in the writings of Lovecraft (and horror in general), he purchased the small tome. Little did he know, this purchase was to have a major impact on his life. Soon after, he purchased a couple of copies of a magazine called The New Invocation. At that time, David realized that he had been a bizarrist most of his life, trapped in the wrappings of a mundane magician. He further realized that it was not magic which bored him and caused him to put down his props, but rather the lack of MAGIC in his magic, which caused him to become bored and disillusioned. Bizarre magic added the MAGIC(K) and MYSTERY back to his magic. It gave his effects a purpose and foundation. David's character is not much different from his real person. He is a collector of unusual items and antiques. He enjoys telling stories about these items and sharing the experience of their unusual properties. He also has an interest in the occult, spawned at an early age by (fictitious) relatives who dabbled in magick and the occult. David frequently uses items from his personal collection as props. He tries to use authentic looking props as this lends credibility to his presentations. David has definitely found a home in Bizarre Magick, where his true self can meet his magic(k)al performance. Member Inner Circle of Bizarre Magic, Mystery School Alumnus, Member of S.A.M. (active member of SAM Assembly 104 in Salem). Has attended numerous ICBM annual Gatherings, The Phoenix Gathering (first one),Weerd Weekend and the Charles Cameron Memorial Gathering in Edinburgh. |
