BROKEN WAND

Broken Wand - LARRY WHITE.

Larry White passed away at 04:21 on the 21st December 2008 as a result of widespread cancers. He is greatly missed by all who knew him personally as well as the many who only knew him through his writings and postings on various e-groups and in magazines.

Larry White by His Friends.

"Larry White was one of the nicest people I never met. He was generous with
his insights and his time, he was a gentleman. I shall miss him."
Max McLaughlin.

"Larry was not only a wonderful performer but a wonderful man. Our hearts and prayers go out to him and his family."  Adrian & Elizabeth Deery

"With all of the hi-tech that is around today one would think (even I would think) that it makes for a less personal world. Well it's because of the internet that I developed a correspondence with a person that I've been lucky to call "my friend" even though we never met in person.

With much pride I can honestly say that I loved the man as a brother or an uncle. It was easy. I would bet that I will NEVER meet or associate with a person such as Larry. He would give you the shirt off his back and if he didn't have a shirt on he'd probably offer to hold & embrace you through your dilemma even if you didn't ask for help or comfort.
As a magical creator I think he was extremely underrated. I always told him-serious half-tongue-in-cheek that he was in my Top 5 Greatest Magicians of All-Time but I never told him where he ranked. Well I hope he knows that it is Number 1. The computer screen is going blurry from the tears in my eyes. We have lost not only Mr. Larry White but the human race has lost a great person.Goodbye Larry my idol & my friend. Rest in eternal loving peace."
Mark Piazza

"What can I say that hasn't been said. Larry will be surely missed, but his legacy lives on in many ways. He was a true lover and contributor to the world of magic and magick. I was lucky enough to meet Larry and spend time talking face-to-face in addition to our several emails. Larry was even kind enough to send me some Nichrome wire for a project when I couldn't locate any. I remember our many emails back an forth discussing that project. Larry is gone, be he will not be forgotten." Dave Birtwell

"His end was expected considering his condition, but totally a shock considering his upbeat attitude. As with the death of all my close friends and loved ones so far in my life, this is one from which I will not recover... I can only adjust. He and I had been in almost constant touch for several months now. And I am only one of a large group with which he bounced ideas around and kidded around with individually as well as collectively. We have lost several friends in one: Shadowland High School's Headmaster White, the not-so-secret entity behind The Scribe of that famous former South Boston bar and pub, the delightfully obnoxious Blight. He was many men to many friends.Aloha, Larry. Thanks for all your past inspiration and your future influence. And for being a real friend in every sense of the word." Alan Wassilak

"I shall always remember Larry White, as a good friend and even better  teacher -- always there with sound advice, an encouraging word, or unflinching  criticism (I earned the wrath of The Blight on several occassions), and it was  so often just what I needed to hear or learn...My folders are full of knowledge  he so generously shared in response to even the most off-hand question...And, as  has been attested, it wasn't just me--he shared his wealth of knowledge and  enthusiasm with all of us.

Thank you, Professor...Rest well."

"It is a sad thing indeed to lose not only a fabulous talent and writer, but also a warm and wonderful human being. I hope that Larry and I will meet again, down the road. I will sorely miss him. Brother Art Black a.k.a. Don Drake "[ BTW it was brother White that gave me my name of Art Black ]

"I'll miss the headmaster. He was the voice of authority and purveyor of a vast wealth of knowledge here on the Shadow Digest. He left his mark in this world and will forever be remembered in our thoughts, in our hearts and whenever we read one of his postings. I'm sure Larry is raising a wine glass high, savoring its bouquet and thinking, "yeah, I'm living and loving the afterlife." This one's for you Larry. "I have four dead flies on the palm of my hand. I'm going to take one of these dead flies..."   Live well, Die well, EVILDAN.

"It has taken me a few days to make sense of things I suppose.  Larry's  death was rather a shock to me not because his health was a secret but because  when we did speak he was always optimistic and upbeat.  It hit me  hard.  Very hard. Then, yesterday morning I have a picture that popped into my head.  It  made me cry but it also gave me some peace.  The picture was of Larry, Tony  Raven, and Masklyn  sitting at the pub and raising a glass.  Someone I  shared this with asked where Gene was, I said no doubt that he was hiding in the  cupboard about to pop out with some oddity and shock everyone." Dean Montalbano

"I haven't commented on Larry's death. It's not that I have nothing to say about this incredible human being; The problem is , it is so difficult. His passing on a personal,  level hits as hard as when we lost Gene Poinc. Both men were giants, creative  masters in the world of magic. How can we best  honor Larry's  memory? By trying to emulate him in every way. He was likely one of the very best friends I have ever had." Kotah

"Larry will be missed by so many apart from myself. He was so much to us all in so many different ways but above all, a great friend. The world is a little less rich
now that he has left us. I know we will all cherish our own particular fond
memories of him and the sincere friendships. Words cannot fully sum Larry up, he
was an EXPERIENCE and I am grateful to have had the Larry experience."
Karl Bartoni.

"Dave Goodsell here. Like you, I am heartbroken over the loss of our friend and inspiration.  FYI, I am working with Larry's and Doris's son Bill to put together an appropriate obituary for the magic fraternity. I hope to have that finished soon.

Also, at Bruce Kalver's suggestion and with Doris White's enthusiastic approval, a fund will be created as part of the S.A.M. Magic Endowment Fund specifically for the S.A.M.'s youth program. This seems especially fitting considering that Larry dedicated a good portion of his life to children and wrote several children's magic books.

"The family announces that the 'Larry White Society of Young Magicians Fund' has been established as a part of the Society of American Magicians Magic Endowment Fund. Those wishing to honor Larry can send checks made payable to The Society of American Magicians Magic Endowment Fund. It may seem a little confusing, so be sure to designate them for the 'Larry White SYM Fund.'  Send them to:-

Brad Jacobs, Chairman
S.A.M. Magic Endowment Fund
234 Towyn Ct.
Lower Gwynedd, PA 19002

We will be certain that Doris receives notice of all those who
contribute to the fund. Best wishes,
David Goodsell
